OneWeb Launches 36 LEO Satellites, In-Orbit Constellation Now Totals 254 Satellites

July 1, 2021 – Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications company OneWeb has successfully launched another 36 satellites. This brings OneWeb’s total in-orbit constellation to 254 satellites, and completes its “Five to 50” mission. OneWeb claims it now “is ready to deliver connectivity across the United Kingdom, Canada, Alaska, Northern Europe, Greenland, and the Arctic Region.” The 254 LEO satellites is 40% of OneWeb’s planned fleet of 648 LEO satellites, which are expected to “deliver high-speed, low-latency global connectivity.” OneWeb’s global service is slated for availability sometime in 2022.
