Brightspeed Companies Of Kansas Adding $6.03 To Residential Customer Bills To Recover Costs Of Property Taxes And Use Of Rights-Of-Way
July 16, 2026 – The Brightspeed Companies of Kansas have filed revisions to their General Exchange Service Tariff with the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC).
Brightspeed’s filing revises the tariff to create a new page 54 that proposes “the introduction of a Tax Recovery Surcharge, which will apply to residential customers’ monthly bills.”
The new “Tax Recovery Surcharge” adds $6.03 to residential customer bills. As explained in the new tariff provision, “[the $6.03] surcharge partially recovers costs incurred by Brightspeed related to property taxes and the use of public and private rights-of-way.”
In its filing, Brightspeed explains that it “is a price-cap regulated carrier and makes this tariff filing in accordance with K.S.A. 2005(q)(1)(F) which declared the services contained herein as price deregulated.”
