The FCC has released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that proposes the creation of a Schools and Libraries Cybersecurity Pilot Program that would provide $200 million over a three-year period to support cybersecurity and advanced firewall services.
FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel has proposed the creation of a pilot program to provide E-Rate support for cybersecurity and advanced firewall-related services for schools and libraries.
The FCC has issued a Public Notice seeking comment on “the use of E-Rate program funds to support advanced or next-generation firewalls and services, as well as other network security services.” Comments are due on or before February 13, 2023, and reply comments are due March 30, 2023.

The FCC is opening a second E-Rate filing window for funding year 2020 to allow schools to request additional E-Rate funding to address increased on-campus bandwidth needs. The second funding window will close on October 16, 2020.
